After many phone calls and lots of hard work, we have officially found a venue to hold WordCamp Seattle. Adobe has kindly agreed to hold the event at their offices in Fremont on September 26, 2009.
We’d like to thank Ryan Stewart from Adobe for helping us so that we can hold the event at Adobe. We are all familiar with the knowledge and tools that Adobe provides to the blogging community and the Internet in general.
For those interested in sponsoring WordCamp Seattle, we will be posting details very soon. We are also looking for volunteers. Please let us know if you are interested. We look forward to meeting you in the near future.

I’m going to follow Lorelle VanFossen’s lead and get the ball rolling by posting about the fact that we are looking for a venue for WordCamp Seattle. We have a tentative date for the conference. Josh - you are this website’s administrator so delete this if you see fit - but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it: September 26, 2009.
Now we need a venue. We would like your suggestions.
All of us on the organizing committee are putting the word out. Here are some options so far, in no particular order. (We can come back and add to the list whenever there is new info.)
- Harbor Conference Center
- Suncadia
- Youngstown Cultural Arts Center (can accommodate about 300 - see below)
- University of Washington (they are booked 9/26/09 per Bean)
Obviously it’s important to have an idea of how many people we expect to attend. I’ll put my estimate out there: I say 300! Who will disagree?
Honestly, I think we can get more, up to 500 if we want to. Here’s why. I’m finding a tremendous amount of interest in WordPress coming from the business and non-profit communities here in Seattle (and around the USA, really). I have two free educational events centered around WordPress scheduled for the end of this month and in April, and there will be about 60 people RSVPing for each of those (120 total). There could easily be 100 of those folks who would come to WordCamp, and I haven’t even tried to get the word out about those events. Right now they are pretty much limited to members of Biznik. The trouble with a number like 500 is that it will seriously limit the number of places we can hold our conference. We will also need to think hard about whether we want to charge attendees a fee, and, if so, how much.
Looking forward to your feedback.
Update Regarding Youngstown Cultural Arts Center
Youngstown says they can fit 300 into their main theater but about half of those would be standing, not seated. They can accommodate 160 or so comfortably, as they did with BizJam, but the keynote would be cramped if there were 200 or more. They have lots of extra small rooms for breakout sessions. The 26th is available.

We are happy to bring WordCamp to the Seattle area. It should be a fun event to bring together WordPress fans that are from the Seattle area. We are in the planning stages of the event so we have yet to determine the date and location of the event.
I am looking forward to organizing this event with others that are as passionate about WordPress as I am. Please subscribe to our RSS feed to get the latest news and follow us on Twitter.
